Your protection

Secure your login and control unwanted contact

Protect your account

  • Use a strong password that is not reused on another website.
  • Enable authenticator-app two-factor authentication.
  • Store recovery codes somewhere separate from your phone.
  • Remove trusted devices that you no longer recognise or use.
  • Never share passwords, login codes or recovery codes with another user.

Control interactions

  • Ignore messages or activity that you do not want to see.
  • Block a specific account from contacting or interacting with you.
  • Use Complete Block when someone may return through another linked account.
  • Report harassment, scams, threats or suspicious behaviour.
  • Ask an administrator for help if you are struggling to remove a block.

Advanced blocking

What makes Complete Block different?

A normal block applies to the selected account. Complete Block also helps prevent ordinary block avoidance by covering other accounts or guest identities confidently linked to the same person.

The protection applies only between the member creating the block and the matched identity. It does not automatically ban that person from the whole Chat Buddy website.

No blocking method can guarantee protection if someone changes their device, browser, connection and identity completely. Complete Block is designed to make common block-circumvention attempts substantially harder.

Managing blocks

You remain in control

Complete Blocks can be reviewed and removed without needing to find the blocked account again in the public user list.

1

Open Complete Blocks

Go to Site Users → Complete Blocks from your Chat Buddy menu.

2

Review the protection

See the account you selected and how many additional linked identities are covered.

3

Remove when ready

Select Remove Complete Block. An administrator can also assist when necessary.

Questions and answers

Account security FAQ

Open a question below for a straightforward explanation of Chat Buddy’s security and blocking features.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication adds another step after your username and password. Chat Buddy asks for a temporary six-digit code generated by an authenticator app.

Is Chat Buddy two-factor authentication free?

Yes. Chat Buddy does not charge members for authenticator-app two-factor authentication.

How do I set up an authenticator app?

Open Two-factor security from your account menu. Scan the displayed QR code with your authenticator app, then enter the newest six-digit code to confirm setup.

What is a trusted device?

A trusted device is a personal browser that can remain verified for a limited period. Do not trust a browser on a shared or public computer.

What happens if I lose my phone?

Use one of your saved single-use recovery codes. Store them securely and separately from the phone containing your authenticator app.

Can I generate new recovery codes?

Yes. You can create a new set from the Two-factor security page. Generating a new set invalidates the previous unused recovery codes.

What is the difference between Ignore and Block?

Ignore is intended to hide unwanted messages or activity. Block applies stronger restrictions to contact and interaction from the selected account.

What is Complete Block?

Complete Block applies normal Block and Ignore protection to the selected account and may also cover other accounts or guest identities that Chat Buddy confidently links to the same person.

Does Complete Block ban someone from Chat Buddy?

No. Complete Block restricts interaction with the particular member who created the block. It does not automatically ban the other person from the entire website.

Can I see every linked account covered by my block?

Chat Buddy shows the account you directly selected and the number of additional linked identities covered. It does not reveal those linked usernames to ordinary members.

How do I remove a Complete Block?

Open Site Users → Complete Blocks, choose the relevant entry and select Remove Complete Block.

Can an administrator help me remove a block?

Yes. Administrators can review active Complete Blocks and remove one on behalf of a member when help or an administrative correction is required.

Should I report someone as well as blocking them?

Report harassment, threats, scams, impersonation, repeated block avoidance or other behaviour that may break Chat Buddy’s rules. Blocking protects your own account, while reporting allows moderators to review the wider behaviour.

Will Chat Buddy staff ask for my verification code?

No legitimate support request should require you to disclose your password, authenticator code or recovery code in a public or private chat message.
